The coastal region stretches from Monterey in the north to Santa Barbara in the south. In between are the wine producing towns of Santa Maria, Los Olivos, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo and Carmel Valley. Wines from this region are among the best in the state. Second only to the Napa Valley region, the Central Coast contains hundreds of wineries offering a wide array of varietals. Big names like Castoro, J. Lohr, Summerwood, Corbett Canyon and Sunstone have taken residence on the central coast. Fall is harvest season when many local wineries reward visitors with free wine tasting.
