The California Desert has a few interesting small towns and cool cities. Palm Springs is a desert oasis of luxury resorts, golf courses, museums, nightlife and much more. La Quinta has a quaint downtown and historic resort. View the spring bloom in Anza-Borrego State Park and find all of the iron sculptures erected in Borrego Springs.

Palm Springs is located off Highway 10, 2½-hours east of Los Angeles. This is California's desert oasis with multiple five star hotels, world-renowned golf courses, upscale shopping and entertainment. Visitors can stroll The Living Desert zoo and cactus gardens. Visit the nearby Joshua Tree National Park. Take the Palm Springs Tram to the top of San Jacinto. Spend a day at a water park or just relax by a pool in the hot desert sun. Take a tour of mid-century modern architecture that made Palm Springs famous. Try your luck at one of several Indian casinos in the region. Stop in to Hadley's fruit stand for a one-of-a-kind date shake.

La Quinta Resort

La Quinta is located off Highway 10 east of Palm Springs. La Quinta is world-renowned for championship tennis and golf courses and is home to the PGA West. Stay at the historic La Quinta Resort featuring several restaurants, shops, pools, fountains, tennis courts, golf courses and a Spanish courtyard for nightly margaritas and entertainment. Old Town La Quinta is a quaint Spanish-style village of boutique shops and restaurants. Clint Eastwood fans would enjoy the Western murals of him inside the Hogsbreath Inn restaurant. Grab a refreshing date shake at Shield's Date Garden or purchase some of their dried fruit & nuts for the road. Try your luck at one of several Indian casinos in the region. Less than an hour away is Joshua Tree National Park featuring amazing rock formations and desert landscape.

Borrego Springs is located east of San Diego off Highway 78. Being San Diego's only desert community, Borrego Springs is a quaint adobe town that resists the business of outside chains. Borrego Springs consists of several luxury resorts, motorhome parks, mouthwatering restaurants, boutique shops and a handful of challenging golf courses. It's surrounded by Anza-Borrego State Park known for its natural wonders and spring wildflower blooms. Find all the spectacular iron dinosaurs, camels and other creatures at Galleta Meadows. Rent a bike from Bike Borrego and head out on your own explorer expedition. Nearby Ocotillo Wells is a popular place for desert off-roading.
