Orange County

Orange County is known for its pristine beaches, wealthy neighborhoods, high-end shopping malls and of course... Disneyland®. Other Orange County attractions include Knott's Berry Farm Theme Park, Angels baseball, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and Mission San Juan Capistrano. The portion of coast from Newport Beach to Dana Point is known as the 'California Riviera' for its secluded beaches and upscale communities. Several pier communities offer the fun-in-the-sun lifestyle synonymous with California including Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and San Clemente. Foodies indulge in the diversity of Orange County from the Vietnamese food of Garden Grove to the Mexican food of Santa Ana and seafood of Newport Beach. Popular Orange County events include the U.S. Open of Surfing, Pageant of the Masters, Orange International Street Fair and Knott's Scary Farm. Orange County, California is also referred to as "The OC".

Orange County State Parks

Bolsa Chica State Beach is located on the northern end of Huntington Beach. Long stretches of sand fill with visitors during the summer. Restrooms are available. MORE DETAILS


Huntington State Beach is located on the southern end of Huntington Beach. This is a wide sandy beach with fire rings for evening bonfires. Public restrooms, bike rentals, and snack stands are available. Across PCH from the beach is the 114-acre Huntington Beach Wetlands that is popular with bird watchers. Corona Del Mar State Beach is located at the southern end of Newport Beach. The Corona Del Mar community consists of the highest priced homes in the county that range from quaint beach cottages to modern mansions. The beach is a wide sandy beach that is short in length. Crystal Cove State Beach

Crystal Cove State Beach is located at the southern end of Newport Beach. This is a long, narrow, and sandy beach backed by 50 foot cliffs. Rocks protrude from the water sporadically. The ocean bottom turns rocky in some areas and large boulders are hidden just below the surface. Popular activities on this beach include snorkeling, surfing, and tide pool exploration. Doheny State Beach is located on the southern end of the Dana Point harbor. This is a short, sandy beach with an all rock bottom ocean. This park has camping, picnic facilities, a snack bar and public restrooms. Surfing is a popular activity. MORE DETAILS


San Clemente State Beach is located on the southernmost end of Orange County. This is a narrow, sandy beach with sand bottom ocean and 30 foot cliffs. Orange County Amusement Parks

Disneyland - Matterhorn & Monorail

Disneyland is located in Anaheim and is the most recognized amusement park in the world. Disneyland rides include Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, the Matterhorn, Big Thunder Mountain and more. Orange County Zoos & Aquariums

Dana Point Ocean Institute

Dana Point Ocean Institute is located in the northern-most portion of Dana Point Harbor. Lyon Air Museum

Seal Beach

Sunset Beach is the smallest beach city in Orange County and is squeezed between Huntington Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach is a large metropolitan city with several miles of wide, sandy beachfront. Main Street, with its plethora of shops, bars and restaurants, ends at the pier. carpool lanes

'Rush Hour' refers to the weekday hours between 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. The east to westbound freeways can be especially congested going westbound in the mornings and eastbound in the evenings. Try to avoid freeway travel during these hours. Carpool lanes are the innermost lanes on the freeway and are marked by double lines and diamond patterns. They are also referred to as 'Diamond Lanes' or 'HOV' lanes (high occupancy vehicle). You must have at least two occupants in the vehicle to legally use these lanes. Orange County has several toll roads that are always less crowded but require a fee.


The 5 Freeway is also referred to as the Golden State Freeway. It runs north and south from the Oregon border to the Mexican border. Travels through Orange County and connects Los Angeles, San Diego, Stockton, Sacramento and Redding. Traffic is bad during weekday rush hours of 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. Carpool lane available. The 5, 22 and 57 intersection is commonly referred to as the 'Orange Crush'.


The 405 Freeway is also referred to as the San Diego Freeway. It runs north and south from the North Valley of L.A. to Irvine in Orange County where it connects with Interstate 5 (El Toro Y). Hugs the coastal communities of Orange County connecting Westminster, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Traffic is bad during weekday rush hours of 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. The 57 Freeway is also referred to as the Orange Freeway. Runs north and south from San Dimas to Santa Ana and connects Brea, Placentia, Anaheim and Orange. The 55 Freeway is also referred to as the Costa Mesa Freeway. Runs north and south from Anaheim to Newport Beach and connects Orange, Tustin, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa. Backs up southbound in Costa Mesa where the freeway ends. Traffic is bad during weekday rush hours of 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. Carpool lane available.


The 241 Toll Road runs north and south from Anaheim Hills to Las Flores and connects Tustin Ranch, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita. Traffic is never much of a problem. The 241 offers quick access for south county to the 91 Freeway.


The 261 Toll Road runs north and south from the 241 Toll Road in Tustin Ranch to Barranca Parkway in Irvine. The 261 parallels Jamboree Road and does not become a toll road until north of Interstate 5. Traffic is never much of a problem. The 261 offers quick access for south county to the 91 Freeway.


The 73 Toll Road runs north and south from the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa to Interstate 5 in Laguna Niguel. The 73 offers quick access to the Newport Coast, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel. It does not become a toll road until south of Bison Avenue. Traffic is never much of a problem.


Highway 74 is also referred to as Ortega Highway. It runs east and west from Interstate 5 in San Juan Capistrano to Lake Elsinore and beyond. This two-lane road offers a southern route over the mountains to Lake Elsinore, Temecula and Perris. Highway 74 is popular with motorcyclists for its curvy mountain road. Its slow speed limit and dangerous road usually makes this route a less desirable choice.

Summer average lows in the 70's and highs in the mid to upper 80's. Humidity can make those temperatures seem higher. Once or twice a year, Santa Ana winds blow in from the desert reducing humidity and increasing the heat to the high 90's+. Summer brush fires are a regular occurrence. Marine layer is a common occurrence and blankets the region with clouds, but often burns off by midday.


Fall average lows in the low 60's and highs in the 70's. Mostly rain and rare hail storms occur.


Ocean water temperature ranges from the 50's in winter to the upper 60's in summer.
