North Coast Lakes Overview

North Coast

North Coast lakes offer boating, fishing, swimming, water-skiing and other activities. These lakes offer rentals for fishing boat, pontoon boats, ski boats, Sea-Doo, Jet Ski, WaveRunner, paddle boat, paddleboard, canoe and kayak. Most have boat launch ramps and marinas that provide fuel, food & drink, cafés, fishing tackle and camping supplies. Several North Coast lakes offer camping and some even include boat-in camping. Among those to choose from are Ruth, Sonoma and Mendocino. Refer to our campgrounds page for info on camping at any of these beautiful North Coast lakes.

North Coast Lakes

Ruth Lake Recreation Area is located off Highway 36 east of Ferndale. Fed by the Mad River, Ruth is nearly 10-miles long and less than a ½-mile wide. Activities include lake camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming and hiking. Amenities include a campground, marina, general store and boat launch ramps. Boat rentals include fishing boats and pontoon boats. Ruth supports fish species like rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill.

Lake Mendocino Recreation Area is located off Highway 101 north of Ukiah. Mendocino is nearly 3-miles long and 1 mile wide. Activities include camping, fishing, swimming, hunting and boating. Amenities include a boat launch ramp, boat-in campsites, steelhead fish hatchery and Indian museum. Mendocino supports fish species like largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, redear sunfish, bluegill and catfish.

Lake Sonoma is located off Highway 101 west of Cloverdale and Geyserville. Sonoma is nearly 15-miles long but narrow at less than 1 mile in width. Activities include camping, fishing, water-skiing, swimming and boating. Boat rentals include pontoon boats, ski boats, fishing boats, canoes and kayaks. Sonoma supports fish species like largemouth bass, crappie, redear sunfish, bluegill and catfish.
