Lakes in Los Angeles offer boating, fishing, swimming, water-skiing and other activities. These lakes offer rentals for fishing boat, pontoon boats, ski boats, Sea-Doo, Jet Ski, WaveRunner, paddle boat, paddleboard, canoe and kayak. Most have boat launch ramps and marinas that provide fuel, food & drink, cafés, fishing tackle and camping supplies. Several lakes in Los Angeles offer camping. Among those to choose from are Pyramid, Castaic, Santa Fe Dam, Hansen Dam, Whittier Narrows and Puddingstone. Pyramid Lake is located off Interstate 5 north of Castaic. Pyramid is situated at the peak of the Grapevine in the Los Padres National Forest. Activities include camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, water-skiing and boating. Amenities include campgrounds, courtesy docks and boat launch ramps. Boat rentals include fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP). Pyramid supports fish species like largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, rainbow trout, bluegill and catfish.

Castaic Lake is located off Interstate 5 north of Santa Clarita. Situated at the base of the Grapevine, Castaic offers a small lagoon and a large lake approximately 6-miles long. The lagoon is off limits to gas powered motors and features activities like swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, camping and picnicking. Activities include swimming, fishing, water-skiing and boating. Fishing boat rentals and boat launch ramp are available at the larger Upper Lake. Castaic supports fish species like largemouth bass, striped bass, black bass, rainbow trout, crappie, bluegill, bullhead catfish and channel catfish.

Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area is located off Interstates 10, 210 and 605 approximately 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Situated at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Fe Dam offers a small lake at less than one mile in length. Activities include fishing, swimming and picnicking. Amenities include a bait shop, snack bar, swim beach, water playground and more. Boat rentals include water bikes, row boats, kayaks and paddle boats. Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area supports fish species like largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, trout, channel catfish and carp.

Puddingstone Lake is located off the 10, 57 and 210 Freeways approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Situated at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, Puddingstone is small at nearly one mile in circumference. Activities include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling and picnicking. Amenities include boat launch ramps, a swim beach, equestrian center and water park. Puddingstone supports fish species like trout, bass, bluegill, catfish, carp, red ear and crappie.

Hansen Dam Recreation Area is located off the 210 Freeway north of Burbank. Situated at the base of the Angeles National Forest, Hansen Dam offers a small lake less than a ½-mile in length and a huge swimming area similar to a giant swimming pool, complete with water slides. Activities include fishing, swimming and picnicking. Hansen Dam supports fish species like rainbow trout and striped bass.

Whittier Narrows Regional Park is located off the 60 Freeway approximately 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Whittier Narrows features a three small lakes less than a ½-mile in length. Activities include boating, fishing, horseback riding, BMX, target shooting, archery and picnicking. Amenities include a shooting range, archery range, ball fields, BMX track, equestrian center and more. Whittier Narrows supports fish species like trout, bass, catfish and bluegill.
