The Inland Empire of California includes a mix of farmland, large industry, towering mountains, small communities and large metropolis. The Inland Empire resides east of Los Angeles and consists of Riverside County and a portion of San Bernardino County. State Parks

Chino Hills State Park is a 12,000 acre park on the edge of urban development. Popular with hikers and mountain bikers, trails lead over rolling hills and through oak shaded creek beds. MORE DETAILS


California Citrus Park preserves one of the few remaining citrus groves from when "Citrus was King" in Southern California. In the early 1900's, the region was found to be fertile for citrus growing and orange groves filled the foothills and plains. Tahquitz/Lily Rock, Idyllwild

Mt. San Jacinto is the second highest peak in Southern California and features pine forests, mountain meadows and granite rock formations. A hiking trail connects the awesome town of Idyllwild to the San Jacinto Peak and the Palm Spring Tram. MORE DETAILS

The Palm Springs Tram is a rotating aerial tram spanning two and a half miles that whisks visitors from the desert floor to over 8,500 feet in under 30 minutes. IDYLLWILD

Airports

Ontario International Airport offers convenient access to all of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties as well as Los Angeles County, Orange County and the desert communities. MORE DETAILS

TIP: This is a large, international airport with few crowds. It is one of the most convenient and usually inexpensive airports in the Southern California region.


Traffic & Transportation

The 10, 60 & 91 are the East to West freeways linking Los Angeles and Orange County with the Inland Empire and the desert regions. Watch out for these freeways during rush hour traffic. Especially going West in the mornings and East in the evenings. Friday evenings can be especially congested going eastbound. Tune in to the local traffic report for traffic conditions, traffic alerts, traffic accidents and more.


The 15, 215 & 71 are the North to South freeways linking high desert and mountain communities with the Inland Empire and San Diego County. Interstate 15 runs all the way from San Diego to Las Vegas and beyond. The 15 northbound can be especially congested on Friday evenings with Vegas goers and Sunday evenings southbound when they return. The 18 & 38 highways travel upward into the San Bernardino Mountains and Big Bear Lake. These are extremely windy and dangerous two-lane roads. In the winter they are the most crowded with skiers & boarders and snow chains are often required. Winter average lows in the 50's and highs in the 60's. Mostly rain and rare hail storms occur. Susceptible to fog and flash flooding can occur during heavy rains.


Spring average lows in the 70's and highs in the 80's. Rain showers can occur through May. Fog is common in lower regions.


Summer average lows in the 90's and highs in the 100's. Once or twice a year, Santa Ana winds blow in from the desert reducing humidity and increasing the heat. Summer brush fires are common. Thunderstorms are a common occurrence.


Fall average lows in the 60's and highs in the 70's. Thunderstorms increasing with hail and moderate flash flooding.
