Seal Beach

Seal Beach

Seal Beach is located off the 405 freeway from Seal Beach Boulevard. This is the northern-most in Orange County and borders Long Beach. Situated off the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH - Hwy 1) at Main Street, Seal Beach has a large sandy beach with a pier, playground, parking lots, restrooms and restaurants. Main Street ends at the pier and is loaded with popular restaurants, bars and boutique shops. The pier offers ocean fishing and charter boats depart for deep sea fishing near the end of the pier. Seal Beach has worked hard at maintaining an original small-town beach vibe and is one of our favorite Orange County beaches.

Sunset Beach

Surfside Beach is found off the 405 freeway from either Seal Beach Boulevard or Warner Avenue exits. Surfside is a small community that blends with Sunset Beach to the south. Squeezed between Huntington Harbor and the Pacific Ocean, Surfside features a small sandy beach backed by seaside homes. No facilities. Surfside is one of the smallest Orange County beaches.

Sunset Beach is situated off the 405 freeway from either Seal Beach Boulevard or Warner Avenue exits. Sunset is squeezed between Huntington Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. Look for the well known Water Tower House and you know you're in Sunset Beach. Kayaking through salt water marshes and in the canals surrounded by multi-million dollar homes and yachts is a popular activity. Stop by Sunset Kayak Rentals for kayak rentals. On the ocean side of Sunset are wide sandy beaches good for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. Restrooms and showers available in the greenbelt along Pacific Avenue.

Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach is a large metropolitan city and features nearly 8 miles of wide sandy beach. Main Street ends at the pier and offers a plethora of shops, bars and restaurants. Huntington is officially 'Surf City' and hosts one of the largest surf competitions in the world. Huntington includes two state beaches - Bolsa Chica and Huntington. Both allow RV camping. Fire rings are available at all Huntington beaches where nighttime parties are a popular activity. Known locally as 'HB', Huntington can get VERY crowded and admittance into the state beaches is sometimes restricted to one car out - one car in. There are a plethora of parking lots and access points along PCH. Parking requires fees. All beaches have public restrooms and many concession stands are available south of the pier. A cement bike path spans the entire length of Huntington. Dog Beach is located at the northern end of Huntington. Huntington Beach is one of the most popular Orange County beaches.

Bolsa Chica State Beach is found off PCH between Warner and Seapoint. Bolsa Chica features a huge sandy beach with fire rings, restrooms, snack stands and equipment rental. Bolsa Chica is backed by the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve with walking trails through coastal wetlands. A 13-mile bike path connects Bolsa Chica with Sunset to the north all the way down to south Newport. Bolsa Chica also offers RV camping for self-contained units. This is popular for nighttime bonfire parties. Bolsa Chica is one of the most popular Orange County beaches.

Dog Beach is found off PCH at Seapoint Street. Dog Beach features a large sandy beach backed by short bluffs. Dogs are allowed on this portion of sand. Owners are required to pickup after their pets. A 7-mile bike path spans the entire length of Huntington. A parking lot and grass picnic areas are available on the bluff. No facilities.

Huntington features a huge sandy beach backed by urban sprawl with a pier, fire rings, volleyball courts, restrooms, snack stands, equipment rental, shops, restaurants, bars, resorts and more. A 7-mile bike path spans the entire length of Huntington. This is popular for nighttime bonfire parties. Main Street at the pier is a very popular spot for shopping, bar hopping and nightlife. Huntington Beach is one of the most popular Orange County beaches.

Huntington S.B. features a huge sandy beach backed by estuary and urban sprawl with fire rings, restrooms, snack stands and equipment rental. A 7-mile bike path spans the entire length of Huntington. Huntington S.B. also offers RV camping for self-contained units. This is popular for nighttime bonfire parties. Huntington Beach is one of the most popular Orange County beaches.

Newport Beach

Newport Beach Pier

Newport Beach is found at the end of the 55 freeway, Newport is a mix of salt water estuary, rocky cliffs, harbor and wide sandy beaches. The northern portion of Newport has wide, white sandy beaches where two piers can be found, the Newport and Balboa Piers. The Balboa Pier has a Ruby's restaurant at the end with outstanding panoramic views. The harbor and back bay estuary split Newport down the center. The Balboa Peninsula is a hub for entertainment with the Balboa Fun Zone offering a ferris wheel, arcade games, boat rentals and more. Boat rentals are available in the harbor. 'The Wedge' is short section of ocean along the north jetty that produces monster waves when conditions are right. These waves break too close to shore for surfing but bodyboarders and body surfers love it. Corona Del Mar features Orange County's priciest community which includes Corona Del Mar State Beach offering a large sandy beach and a secluded cove with sea caves. Other than the piers, most of Newport requires street parking with just about any street leading to the sand. Surfing spots include 54th, 56th, 40th, 36th and 19th streets as well as the two piers and The Wedge. Fire rings are located on both side of the Balboa Pier for nighttime parties. A bike path spans the entire length of Newport where along the way are parks, basketball courts, volleyball courts, restrooms and wheelchair accessible paths onto the sand.Crystal Cove State Beach is found in the southern end on the Newport Coast and features a sandy beach, tide pools, rock outcroppings and an original seaside community. Newport Beach offers a plethora of fun things to do in Orange County.

West Newport Beach is situated off PCH between Huntington and the 55 freeway. West Newport features a large sandy beach back by residential neighborhood. Break walls extend from the shore creating several popular surf spots. A 5-mile bike path spans the entire length of Newport. Park on the residential streets. No facilities.

Balboa Peninsula

The Balboa Peninsula is located at the end of the 55 freeway after it becomes Balboa Boulevard. Balboa Peninsula features a huge sandy beach backed by Newport Harbor with two piers, restaurants, bars, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a playground, restrooms and more. Parking is available on residential streets or at parking lots at the piers. Both the Newport and Balboa Piers are hubs for entertainment and offer restaurants at the end with outstanding panoramic views. Fire rings can be found at the Balboa Pier for nighttime bonfires. A 5-mile bike path spans the entire length of Newport. The Wedge is situated at the harbor jetty and produces monster waves when conditions are right. Corona Del Mar State Beach is found off PCH just south of MacArthur Boulevard. Corona Del Mar features a small sandy beach backed by bluffs and a residential neighborhood with multi-million dollar homes. Situated on the south side of the Newport jetty, Corona Del Mar offers volleyball courts, fire rings, grassy picnic areas, restrooms and snack stands. Nighttime parties with bonfires are a popular activity. A short trail at the west end of the parking lot heads over the rocks to a secluded cove with sea caves. tide pools are located at both ends. Corona Del Mar is one of the best Orange County beaches for kids and families.

Little Corona Beach is situated off PCH from Poppy Avenue. Little Corona features a tiny cove with a sandy beach surrounded by rocky cliffs. Follow the foot path at the end of Poppy Avenue and Ocean Boulevard to the sand below. No facilities. Little Corona is one of the smallest Orange County beaches.

Newport Coast

The Newport Coast is found off PCH at Newport Coast Drive. Newport Coast features a long beach with mixed rock and sand that is part of Crystal Cove State Beach. Parking is available on the bluff where there are bike paths and trails that descend the bluffs to one of the least crowded of Orange County beaches. A small sea cave is located at the north end. Restrooms available at the parking lots. A campground is available across the highway at the southern end of Crystal Cove.

Crystal Cove State Beach is located off PCH between Newport and Laguna. Crystal Cove features 3 miles of sandy beach, tide pools and bluff-top trails for hiking and biking. Several access points offer large parking lots and restrooms. Also at Crystal Cove are the Crystal Cove Beach Cottages, an original grouping of shanty houses that have been preserved and restored as rentals. This community also includes the Beachcomber restaurant which serves appetizers, meals and cocktails on the sand. Head up the Crystal Cove Trail to Ruby's Shake Shack for smoothies, malts, shakes and other tempting snacks. Crystal Cove is one of the few Orange County beaches to offer camping by the beach at Moro Campground

Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach is an artist community nestled in the hills of Laguna Canyon. Laguna consists of Main Beach and many large & small coves separated by rocky cliffs. Most beaches are named after the streets that access them. Watch for ocean access signs and stairways off PCH. Heisler Park is situated north of Laguna Main and is accessible from Cliff Drive. Heisler Park features a walking path along the bluffs with panoramic lookouts to the Pacific Ocean, native gardens, picnic areas and several access points. These beaches are a terrific example of what Laguna has to offer. But for those looking to find other beaches in Laguna, we've compiled a comprehensive list below.

Crescent Beach is found off Crescent Bay Drive and Cliff Drive in North Laguna. Crescent is a large cove with a sandy beach and rock bottom ocean. Backed by cliffs covered with multi-million dollar homes. Access from Barranca Street. Restrooms and showers available.

Shaw's Cove is located off Fairview Street and Cliff Drive in North Laguna. Shaw's is a small cove with a sandy beach and rock bottom ocean. Backed by cliffs covered with multi-million dollar homes. Access from Fairview Street. No facilities.

Fisherman's Cove & Boat Canyon are situated off Cliff Drive at Beverly Street and Cliff Drive in North Laguna. Fisherman's Cove is a small cove with a sandy beach and rock bottom ocean. Backed by cliffs covered with multi-million dollar homes and condos. Access is along side Diver's Cove Condos. No facilities. If you see the pile of boats, surfboards and kayaks you know you've found it.

Diver's Cove is found off Cliff Drive just north of Heisler Park. Diver's Cove is a small cove with a sandy beach and rock bottom ocean that connects with Picnic Beach to the south. Backed by a cliff with Divers Cove Condos street parking. Access from along side Divers Cove Condos or Heisler Park. Restrooms available at Heisler Park. An oceanfront trail spans Heisler Park connecting Divers Cove, Picnic Beach and Rockpile. Popular for scuba divers and snorkelers.

Picnic Beach Laguna

Picnic Beach is located off Cliff Drive just north of Myrtle Street. Picnic is a large cove with a sandy beach and rock bottom ocean that connects with Divers Cove to the north. Backed by a cliff with Heisler Park and street parking. Access in front of the picnic lawn. Restrooms available at Heisler Park. An oceanfront trail spans Heisler Park connecting Divers Cove, Picnic Beach and Rockpile. The south end of Picnic Beach has tide pools.

Rockpile Beach Laguna

Rockpile Beach is situated off Cliff Drive at Jasmine Street. Rockpile is a large cove with a mix of sandy beach and rock formations. Backed by a cliff with Heisler Park and street parking. Access from a staircase at scenic lookout and another to the south. Restrooms available at Heisler Park. An oceanfront trail spans Heisler Park connecting Divers Cove, Picnic Beach, Rockpile and Laguna Main. Lots of tide pools. This is a surfing beach with no swimming allowed.

Laguna Main Beach

Laguna Main is found at the intersection of PCH and Laguna Canyon Road (Hwy 133). Situated in downtown Laguna Beach, Laguna Main is the hub of activity with volleyball courts, two half-court basketball courts, a playground, picnic tables, viewing benches, public showers and restrooms. A boardwalk spans the sand and heads up to Heisler Park to the north. Tide pools are located at the north end of Laguna Main.

Cress Beach

South of Laguna Main are several beaches that all link together as one and are named after their access roads. These include Sleepy Hollow, Cleo Street, St. Anne's, Thalia Street, Anita Street, Oak Street, Brooks Street, Cress Street, Mountain Street, Blue Bird, Agate and Pearl Street. Head down any of these streets to find beautiful sandy beaches that are less crowded than Main Beach. The south end of Pearl Street features an arch rock and blow hole. Brooks Street and Thalia Street are surf and skim board only. All of these Orange County beaches have no facilities.

Wood's Cove & Lovers Cove are situated off Diamond Street. These small coves are very popular with locals and feature a sandy beach and picturesque rock formations. Backed by cliffs covered with multi-million dollar homes. Access from stairway at end of Diamond Street. No facilities.

Moss Point is found off Moss Street. This small cove is frequented mostly by locals and features a mixed rock and sandy beach with picturesque rock formations including 'Rockledge' to the south. Backed by cliffs with a few multi-million dollar homes. Access from stairway at end of Moss Street. No facilities.

Victoria Beach Laguna

Victoria Beach is located off Victoria Drive. Large sandy beach with mostly rock to the north. The highlight of Victoria is medieval-looking 1926 tower that used to serve as a stairwell to the sand. Backed by cliffs with multi-million dollar homes. Access from stairway at southwest corner of Victoria Drive. No facilities. Because of the picturesque tower, Victoria Beach is one of the more unique Orange County beaches.

Christmas Cove is situated in front of the Montage Resort and is the resort's northernmost beach. It offers the least protection from waves of any other Montage beach. Mostly sandy beach with rock bottom ocean. Access from the ramp at the north of Montage Resort Park. No facilities on the sand but the Montage has everything you could need.

Montage Beach

Goff Cove & Middleman Cove are found in front of the Montage Resort. These small coves feature small sandy beaches that are protected from surf by large rock outcroppings. Great beaches for snorkeling or scuba diving. Access via the stairway from Montage Resort Park or the ramp to the north that splits Christmas and Goff Coves. No facilities on the sand but the Montage has everything you could need.

Treasure Island Beach

Treasure Island is situated at the south end of the Montage Resort. This large sandy beach flows seamlessly into Aliso Creek to the south. Access from ramp at south end of Montage Resort Park or by walking north on the sand from Aliso Creek. Backed by coastal bluffs with the Montage Resort and several multi-million dollar homes. Popular with skim boarders at the southern end near Aliso Creek. No facilities on the sand but the Montage has everything you could need.

Aliso Creek Beach

Aliso Creek Beach is located off Aliso Way in South Laguna. Aliso Creek is a County Park featuring a large sandy beach, parking lot, children's playground, concession stand, restrooms and fire rings for bonfire parties. tide pools and rock outcroppings at south end. Popular with skim boarders. Pay parking. Aliso Creek is one of the great Orange County beaches for kids.

West Street Beach is found off West Street in South Laguna. The northern portion is a predominantly gay. West Street features a large sandy beach with Table Rock at the southern end. Backed by coastal bluffs with businesses and multi-million dollar homes. Access from stairway at West Street intersection. No facilities.

Table Rock Beach is situated off Table Rock Drive in South Laguna. Small cove with a sandy beach, rock bottom ocean and large rock outcroppings. Backed by cliffs with condos and multi-million dollar homes. Access from stairway at southwest corner of Table Rock Drive. No facilities.

Thousand Steps Beach

Thousand Steps Beach is located at 9th Avenue in South Laguna. Although named 'Thousand Steps', it's really only about a 230 step staircase - it just seems like a thousand steps on a hot day. Thousand Steps features two large interconnected coves with large white sandy beaches backed by cliffs and multi-million dollar homes. Low tide awards the opportunity to explore a giant sea cave at the south end. Access from stairway at intersection of 9th Street. Parking is available on northbound side of PCH and is limited. Restrooms, showers and water available at the bottom of the steps. Because of the sea cave, Thousand Steps Beach is one of the more unique Orange County beaches.

Dana Point

Dana Point Harbor

Dana Point has several beaches that flank a small harbor. Most of the oceanfront is part of Doheny State Beach with camping, snack food stands, picnic areas, sandy beach and rocky ocean bottom. Back from the sand are huge grassy picnic areas with picnic tables and wind blocks. The harbor offers fishing and sailing charters, restaurants, hotels, an aquarium and an historical tall ship. tide pool exploration is popular around the cliff from the aquarium. Dana Point hosts many lively events including the Whale Festival, Tall Ships Festival and Doheny Days live music event featuring jazz, blues and surf music legends. Dana Point has some of the most popular Orange County beaches.

Monarch Beach is found off Ritz Carlton Drive north of Dana Point. Salt Creek is a County Park featuring a huge sandy beach, park, parking lot, concession stand, showers and restrooms. The south end is a popular surf spot and also features tide pools. Backed by cliffs covered with multi-million dollar homes, luxury resorts, a golf course and park with picnic benches, a basketball half-court and plenty of green space. Access via a long ramp from the parking lot. Pay parking.

Strands Beach is located off Selva Road north of Dana Point. Access by turning west on Selva Road from PCH and go one block to free parking. An alternate parking lot is found off Niguel Shores road. Strands features a long thin beach of rock and sand. Access is via a long staircase and steep ramp. The stair portion can be avoided by using a funicular (elevator tram contraption). A boardwalk spans the entire length and connects with Salt Creek to the north. The boardwalk can be walked as a loop with both ends connecting to the bluffs above. Rock bottom ocean is popular with surfers. Backed by coastal bluffs covered with a park and multi-million dollar homes. Restrooms and showers available.

Baby Beach

Baby Beach is found off Dana Point Harbor Drive in Dana Point Harbor. Also referred to as 'Mothers Beach', Baby Beach is situated at the far end of Dana Point Harbor and features a small sandy cove and swimming area with no waves. Includes a free parking lot, restrooms, and a grassy picnic area are available. Baby Beach is one of the most popular Orange County beaches for parents with toddlers because of the calm waters and gently sloping sand.

Doheny

Doheny State Beach is located off of Dana Point Harbor Drive south of the Harbor. Doheny is a large State Park with large sandy beaches, picnic areas and campgrounds. Doheny is split by San Juan Creek with parking and day use to the north and camping to the south. The picnic area features a large picnic lawn with picnic tables, grills, wind shelters, concession stands, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers. It's split into a surfing or swimming zone and is mostly rock bottom. The campground offers campsites for tent and RV with additional day use and RV parking farther south. Doheny can be very crowded on summer weekends and hosts several events throughout the year. The nearby harbor provides extra amenities like restaurants, hotels, boat rentals, ocean excursions and more. Doheny is one of the best Orange County beaches for kids and beginning surfers.

Capo Beach is situated off Palisades Drive south of Dana Point. This County Beach features a parking lot and a narrow mixed rock and sandy beach. Amenities include a basketball court, volleyball courts and restrooms.

San Clemente

San Clemente

San Clemente is a mix of narrow sandy beaches squeezed by train tracks and cliffs, wide sandy beaches with a pier and hiking-in beaches that are world-renowned surf breaks. Surfing is superb in San Clemente with breaks like T-Street, Trestles, Churches and the pier. Shopping and entertainment is unusually limited at this pier. Fisherman's restaurant & bar serve great seafood with panoramic views from the base of the pier. The pier has excellent fishing for bonita, mackerel, sand bass and surf perch. A little farther south is Trestles, one of the best Southern California surf breaks.

Poche Beach is found at the intersection of Camino Capistrano and El Camino Real Streets. Poches is a narrow sandy beach squished between oceanfront homes. Backed by train tracks and the busy El Camino Real Street, Poches offers a private club and a volleyball court. Access via a pedestrian walkway through a storm drain across the street from the gas station. No facilities.

North Beach is situated off El Camino Real in North San Clemente. North Beach is a narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Amenities include a playground, volleyball court, restrooms and concession stand. Shared parking lot at the San Clemente Amtrak station. Cross over train tracks to access the sand. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

Dije Court Beach is located off Buena Vista Road in a residential community. This is a very narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Access via long staircase from Buena Vista and cross over railroad tracks. No facilities. El Portal Beach (204) is found off Buena Vista & El Portal Road in a residential community. This is a very narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Access via long staircase from Buena Vista and cross over railroad tracks. It is popular for surfing.

Mariposa Beach is situated off Mariposa in a residential community. This is a very narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Access via long staircase from Mariposa and cross under railroad tracks and the San Clemente Beach Trail. It is popular for surfing.

Linda Lane Beach is located off Linda Lane in a residential community. This is narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Access via parking lot at Linda Lane Park and cross under railroad tracks. Park features grass picnic areas, a playground and restrooms. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

T Street Beach is located off Esplanade Street in a residential neighborhood. T Street is a large sandy beach with restrooms, concession stands and covered picnic areas, surfing, Access from parking lot on Paseo De Cristobal and walk bridge over train tracks. Surfing is popular when swells are larger. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

Lost Winds Beach is found off Calle De Los Alamos in a residential neighborhood. This is a narrow sandy beach backed by train tracks. Includes several volleyball courts. Access via Street Parking off Calle De Los Alamos and follow the steep path over train tracks. No facilities. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

Riviera Beach

Riviera Beach is located off Avenida de la Playa in a residential neighborhood. Riviera is a narrow sandy beach backed by train tracks. Access via street parking off Plaza a la Playa take a short staircase under train tracks. It is popular for surfing.

Montalvo Beach is situated off Mariposa in a residential community. This is a very narrow sandy beach backed by railroad tracks. Access via foot trail near intersection of Avenida Montalvo and Avenida Lobeiro, cross under railroad tracks and the San Clemente Beach Trail. No facilities. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

Calafia State Beach is found off Avenida Calafia in a residential neighborhood. Calafia is a narrow sandy beach backed by train tracks and includes concession stands and restrooms. From parking lot, head over train tracks and down a short staircase to the sand. It is popular for surfing. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

San Clemente State Beach is located off Avenida Calafia. San Clemente State Beach is a narrow sandy beach backed by train tracks and tall bluffs. Access from the State Park day use parking lot and head down one of two long steep trails. Cross under the train tracks to the sand. Restrooms available. Camping is available on the bluffs. This is one of the few Orange County beaches that allows camping by the beach. The San Clemente Beach Trail is a mixed boardwalk and dirt walking trail that follows the coastline and connects all of San Clemente's beaches.

Trestles is found off Interstate 5 at Christianitos Road, Trestles is one of Southern California's best surf breaks. Park in the parking lot or on the streets at the intersection of Christianitos Road and El Camino Real. Follow the surfers back over the freeway and walk the trail to the south. Pass under the train trestle to a large sandy beach. Sand becomes rock bottom at water's edge. Popular with surfers and delivers perfect rights when conditions are good and is usually breaking 1 to 2 feet higher than nearby beaches. Trestles is fragmented by several points that all deliver good waves. No facilities on the beach. Trestles is one of the few Orange County beaches that allows camping by the beach at San Mateo Campground.

  • Cottons is situated slightly north of the access trail and delivers both rights and lefts.

  • Trestles is situated at the point to the south of the access trail and offers the largest break of the group. No facilities. Trestles is the best surf beach of all Orange County beaches.

  • Lowers is situated at the second point to the south of the access trail and is a good alternative when Trestles is going off or too crowded. No facilities.

  • Middles is a walk down the sand from Trestles and is a much less crowded break than Trestles or Lowers. No facilities.
