The Sierra Foothills reside on the western slope of the Sierras and span from Grass Valley in the north to Mariposa in the south. In between are the wine producing towns of Camino, Placerville, Murphys and more. Visit Boeger Winery in Placerville to see the first winery in the region that was started during 'The Gold Rush'. This is Gold Country where you might say, California's first housing boom took place in 1849. Today, the gold has turned to wine and big names like Ironstone, Madroña, Twisted Oak and Sutter Creek are producing award-winning wines in the region. The town of Murphys offers tasting rooms of many local wineries along Main Street.
