Wineries Overview

California currently has over one thousand wineries throughout the state, with most offering tasting rooms. From the Bordeaux-like castles of the Napa Valley to the small family-owned vineyards of the Sierra Foothills, California continues to expand wine production. The first vine was planted in California by Father Junipero Serra in 1769, at the Mission San Diego. In the late 1800's, disease resistant California vines were shipped to Europe in order to save the entire European wine industry. With origins in the middle-east earlier than 2,000 B.C., vintners have spent thousands of years to perfect and provide you with 'The Drink of the Gods,' by way of California's wineries. Today, California wines are among the best in the world.
