This is a miscellaneous collection of popular tourist attractions and places we think you should try to visit and experience along the North Coast. Some of these ideas are as simple as visiting a local brewery. Others include lighthouses and a petrified forest. From Vichy Springs where you can soak in naturally carbonated mineral baths to Old Faithful Geyser in Calistoga, here you'll find unique California points of interest.

Trees of Mystery is located south of Crescent City off Highway 101. Trees of Mystery is located in the heart of Redwood National Park and features unusual and incredible formations of Redwood trees. Follow a short interpretive trail through the forest or take the Sky Trail gondola to the peak for astounding panoramic views from the lush redwood forest to the rugged Humboldt coastline. Trees of Mystery also includes a Native American Museum with the most extensive private collection of basketry in the world. View artifacts from the local Yurok, Karok and Tolowa tribes to the Zunis of the southwest and those from the mid-western planes. Also available is a Motel and cafe. Look for Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe.

Point Arena Lighthouse is located in Manchester, approximately 30-miles south of Mendocino. Point Arena is one of the tallest and well-maintained California lighthouses. Join a guided tour to the top, stroll the grounds for perfect picture taking opportunities or stay the night at one of the vacation homes on the property. Situated on the headlands of notoriously rugged Northern California coastline.

Point Cabrillo Light Station is located just a short distance north of Mendocino. Built in 1908, the lighthouse was a key safety beacon to the supply ships helping to rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. Point Cabrillo is still today in full operation. Grounds also include a gift shop, lightkeepers home & museum, tipepool aquarium and nature preserve.

Lagunitas Brewery is located off Highway 101 in Petaluma. Stop in and have a cold one. Lagunitas is known for their flavorful IPA brews. Call ahead for a tour of the brewery.

Vichy Springs Resort is located off Highway 101 east of Ukiah. This State Historic Landmark features 150 year old hot springs that are the only naturally warm and carbonated mineral baths in North America. Choose to stay a night at their cozy cottages or just enjoy a few hours soaking in the mineral baths. Natural mineral springs like Vichy Springs have long been known to have healing abilities.

Clear Lake is located off Highway 20 north of San Francisco. Clear Lake is a huge recreational lake. Launch ramps a prevalent throughout the lake but Konocti Harbor offers the most activity options. Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa also offers a casino and outdoor amphitheatre featuring top-notch performers. Activities include jet skiing, water skiing, fishing, sailing, swimming, horseback riding and so much more. For a more serene experience, visit Blue Lakes just a short distance west on Highway 20.

Old Faithful Geyser is located between Highways 128 & 29, north of Calistoga. This is one of only 3 geysers in the world that can be considered 'faithful' due to its predictable eruptions. An eruption takes place every 20-30 minutes and reaches heights of 20 to 70 feet. Water is super heated by volcanic activity deep below the earth's surface and forced upward to create the geyser.

Petrified Forest is located west of Calistoga and Highway 128, off Petrified Forest Road. Situated in a pine forest with views of Mt.St.Helena, nature trails lead to 3-million year old redwood tree remnants that now exist as rock. An ancient volcanic eruption probably felled the trees and then preserved them over millions of years with a layer of volcanic ash. Volcanic evidence can be found along the trails in the form of obsidian and pumice.

Point Cabrillo Lighthouse is located north of Mendocino in Pine Grove, off Highway 1. Visit this working lighthouse originally constructed in 1909 and poised 57 feet above the ocean on a picturesque Mendocino Headland. Stroll 3.5 miles of Nature Preserve walking trails. Explore the Lightkeeper's Museum which also houses a 350-gallon tidal aquarium. The grounds also feature a Bed & Breakfast Inn that utilizes the old Lightkeeper's House and cottages.
