Mt. San Gorgonio is located in the San Bernardino National Forest off Highway 38 east of San Bernardino. This is the highest peak in Southern California at over 11,000 feet. Mt. San Gorgonio offers camping but the main attractions are the hiking trails to the peak. The peak offers astounding panoramic views for as far as the eye can see. This would be a good practice hike if you're considering to hike Mt. Whitney. A wilderness permit is required for hiking.
TIP: This is a serious hike with a large elevation gain and altitude considerations. We recommend staying at one of the lower elevation campgrounds one night in order to acclimate before hiking to the summit.
