Below you'll find information on caves that can be found along in the High Sierras. Whether it be an interest in stalactites, stalagmites, curtains and flowstones, or just an interest in exploring the underground, California has something to suit your interest. Most caves and mines hover around 60 degrees year round, making these underground attractions a great place to cool off on a warm summer day.
Boyden Cavern is located off Highway 180 west of Fresno in Kings Canyon National Park. Head north on 180 (Kings Canyon Highway) past Grant Grove Village for several miles. The parking lot is next to a bridge at the bottom of the canyon where the the Kings River crosses under the road. Stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones covered in crystals and rimstone dams can be seen along a 45-minute guided walking tour. Choose to return the same way or take the more adventurous 'Wet Trail' out of the cavern. Open seasonally April through September.
